 Transforming ourselves into a commissioning organisation
We’ve shared with our staff a strategy about how we will transform ourselves into a commissioning organisation over the next 3 to 5 years. Our new Business Support directorate will operate from 5 processing sites instead of 13 as at present. We will maintain a local presence at the other 8 sites, with relationship managers and business analysts located there. Services to the public will not be affected.

 Consultation open on means testing in the Crown Court
The LSC and the Ministry of Justice have published a joint consultation paper on Crown Court means testing. It proposes a contributory scheme which would ensure that those who can afford to pay for their defence do so.

 Deadline for new duty solicitor applications
The current rotas expire on 13 Jan 09. Duty solicitors on the rotas will automatically be included in the next set issued on 13 Dec 08, unless we’ve been advised they no longer qualify. New applications for schemes from Jan 09 will be accepted up to close of business on 14 Nov 08.

We are relaunching LSC Online to 652 providers in Wales and parts of London. The relaunch project is on target for all our providers to be using LSC Online by Apr 09.
