We are very excited to send you the first of our Vimba newsletters. These will be sent out once a quarter and aim to give you a brief overview on Vimba’s current work, upcoming events as well as the work be done on the ground.
Vimba’s key focus is on the children of Zimbabwe and alleviating their suffering. Vimba’s goal is to create a number of self-sufficient and sustainable child feeding centres throughout Zimbabwe with the aim of phasing out donor dependency. We strive to engage with the community to not only encourage individuals to become involved with the initiative but to also help by building sustainability within society as a whole.

FEEDING CENTRE UPDATE
Mapere and Montgomery:These projects are
running well and on average we are feeding and providing for 75 children per
centre everyday. This month Mapere has been sent windows, paint and
cement in order to improve the current facility. We are also identifying
courses for the women who are acting as carers at the feeding centers. We
have bought a mill for both the centers which has allowed us to both make food
for the community and sell the excess. This means that the feeding centers have
an income, this is just one of the ways we are trying to make the center
sustainable. The uniforms for Montgomery
have been made, however more material is needed for Montgomery and
Mapere. We have purchased material for school benches and we will get a
local community member involved in carpentry to mend the existing
benches.
Macheke: In the village there are 73 children who are struggling to cope with the lack of food. The
area is in need of food as the maize has not set due to the lack of rain. We have discussed the possibilities of feeding the children at the school; however
with 23 of the children being under the age of 6 we have realised that there
needs to be a crèche in the village. We will be costing the possibility
of putting a double Woodrow house at the village which will be used as a
feeding centre. The school going children under 16 may then go to the
crèche for breakfast before they walk the 3 kilometres to school.
